Rasagiline in the treatment of persistent negative symptoms of schizophrenia

This study is a 12 week, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of rasagiline, an FDA approved  medication.It  is designed to provide pilot  data on the efficacy and safety  of rasagiline for  the treatment of both negative symptoms and cognitive impairments in patients with schizophrenia. The study is also designed  to provide preliminary data on the potential  of rasagiline to reverse abnormalities in the reward system. Eligible individuals will  receive an extensive diagnostic evaluation, medication monitoring, transportation to and from research  appointments, and  compensation for their time.

Eligibility Criteria:

Age-18-64

Diagnosis-Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective disorder

Treatment with one or more second generation  antipsychotics, except ziprasidone
