Comparison of Varenicline and Placebo for Smoking Cessation in Schizophrenia 

People with schizophrenia tend to smoke more than people without schizophrenia .Smoking might also make the medications  you take to treat schizophrenia less effective. Many people with schizophrenia want to quit smoking and 60% want help doing so.

The purpose of this study is to see if Varenicline can help people with schizophrenia stop smoking.

This  study is a 12-week, double- blind placebo-controlled trial of varenicline,. .All  subjects will receive individual smoking cessation support. Eligible individuals will  receive an extensive diagnostic evaluation, medication management, transportation to and from research appointments, and compensation for their time

Eigibility Criteria:

Age 16-64

Diagnosis of Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective disorder

Smokes 10 cigarettes per day for one year.
