Ongoing Research Projects

  • "Neural Oscillatory Biomarkers for Genetics and Animal Models of Schizophrenia" (PI: Elliot Hong. NIMH R01 MH085646). This project is to develop human-animal translational electrophysiological biomarkers for pharmacology and genetics.

  • "Shared Neural Circuitry in Comorbid Schizophrenia and Nicotine Addiction" (PI: Elliot Hong. NIDA R01 DA027680). This project aims to identify reward and inhibition related brain circuits in smoking, schizophrenia, using event-related fMRI, resting state fMRI, DTI, and genetics approaches.

  • "TMS in Electrophysiology" (PI: Elliot Hong). This project aims to determine the electrophysiogical response signatures during transcranial magnetic stimulation.

  • "SOLAR-Eclipse Computational Tools for Imaging Genetics" (PI: Peter Kochunov. NIBIB 5R01EB01561). This project is to develop imaging genetics tools for combing high-throughput genetic methodology with functional and structural phenotypes collected by imaging modalities.

  • "Relating Brain Maturation to Impulse Control and Substance Use Development" (PIs: Don Dougherty and Ashley Acheson. UTHSCSA, sub-contract PI: Peter Kochunov). This proposal integrates distinct bodies of research on brain development, adolescent behavior, and substance abuse to advance understanding of risks and consequences of adolescent substance use.

  • “Evaluation and Development of Magnetic Resonance Techniques” (PIs: Laura Rowland and Andrea Wijtenburg). This project will evaluate new or improved magnetic resonance techniques.

  • “Multimodal Neuroimaging of Relational Learning in Schizophrenia” (PI: Laura Rowland. NIMH R01 MH094520). This project will use fMRI, DTI, and 1H-MRS to investigate relational learning in schizophrenia.

  • “Neurotransmitters in Schizophrenia using high-field MR Spectroscopy” (PIs: Laura Rowland and Peter Barker. NIMH R01MH096263). This project will use high field magnetic resonance spectroscopy methods to measure neurotransmitter levels in schizophrenia.
