MK-0777 for the Treatment of Cognitive Impairments in Patients with Schizophrenia

While there have been several new medications developed which have  been effective in treating the positive symptoms of schizophrenia,none of them have been very effective in treating  the cognitive problems that may be a part of schizophrenia.MK-077 is a new medication  that may be helpful in  treating these cognitive problems when taken with your regular medication for schizophrenia.

The study is a mulitcentered,randomized,double-blind clinical trial of MK-0777 and  placebo.The purpose of the study is to find out if  the medication  MK-0777, improves attention, memory and learning in patients with schizophrenia. Eligible individuals will receive an extensive diagnostic evaluation, medication management, transportation to and from research appointments, and compensated for their time.

Eligiblity Criteria:

Age -18-60

Diagnosis-Schizophrenia, including disorganized, paranoid, undifferentiated, catatonic

Duration of illness equal to or greater than one year

Treatment with one of the following medications: aripiprazole, olanzapine, paliperidone, quetiapine, ziprasidone, or risperidone
