The ORP Clinic is part of the Outpatient Research Program (ORP) which has three missions.  In addition to the clinical mission, there is both a research and training mission.  As part of the University of Maryland Department of Psychiatry and the Maryland Psychiatric Research, the ORP works to better understand and treat Schizophrenia Related disorders and provides opportunities for training at all levels of the education spectrum.

Services are funded through University of Maryland, State and federal grants, so fees are not collected for clinical care. A participant’s pharmacy insurance is used to cover medication costs which are supplied by an outside pharmacy and brought to the clinic, so patients served can obtain their medication at the time of their appointment.  Transportation is available within a 30 miles radius with approval by the Medical Director.  The clinical services are provided under a license through the Maryland Department of Health/ Behavioral Health Administration. Since 2017, services are CARF-accredited (www.carf.org) which demonstrates the program’s quality, transparency, and commitment to the satisfaction of the persons served.

Our Team

Care is interdisciplinary with experienced psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and pharmacist who work together as a multidisciplinary team.  An assigned psychiatrist and therapist serve as the foundation.  A medical assistant is onsite to obtain needed blood work and vital signs and EKGs A research pharmacist provides extra help and expertise with medication-related questions.  A team approach allows for 24 hour coverage and a psychiatrist and therapist are always on call during non-clinic hours.
