- Individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 who have a diagnosis of Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective disorder
- An individual must be capable of understanding the research nature of the clinic as research participation is expected of them if admitted to our clinic. We encourage patients to participate in research only if they are stable enough to do so, and if we feel that participation would not hinder specific treatment and therapeutic goals. Clinical care is not in any way affected by research participation.
- Eligible individuals must have an IQ of 70 or greater.
- Certain medical conditions may make someone ineligible for our program.
- Eligible individuals must have no history of autism, pervasive development disorders, or intellectual disabilities.
- An individual who has extensive substance abuse or dependence may be ineligible for our program.
- An individual who has current legal issues may be ineligible for our program. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- Referrals can come from family members, private practice settings, community mental health centers, or hospital admission units.
- Eligible individuals must live within 30 miles of our clinic.
The intake coordinator will gather information prior to the first visit, so as to increase the likelihood that a referred person meets criteria for treatment in the ORP. The person will then start an evaluation by a therapist and psychiatrist to clarify the diagnosis and to ensure that the person (and family, when possible) feel being part of the ORP is a good fit.
For persons who are not interested or who are not eligible to receive care in the ORP, diagnostic consultation may be provided as a service to the community. Alternatively, persons who meet eligibility and are interested in research participation but do not choose to come to the ORP for care can be referred for research participation only.
